Photo Retouching

Before                                                                                                         After                                        I chose to go with this option because I felt like the changes would be more evident than the others. For this photo of my twin sister and me (I am on the left, and she is on the right), my goal was to ma...

Photo Retouching Concepts

Image
This photo is of my twin sister and me. We went on a cruise with our family. This was taken in a gift shop on the island of Belize. I think this is a good photo for restoration because the quality is not the best due to the older cameras and the picture is slightly blurry. This photo is a rare moment of my twin sister and me getting along, kind of. We were in Germany at the time because my dad was deployed in the Army. I think this could be a good choice for restoration because it looks like the colors are too deep so I can adjust the saturation and brightness, and there is glare from the camera flash on the photograph to correct as well. This photo is a moment from when my dad got home from being deployed in Iraq, he came home to us in Germany. These photos are from the early 2000s. My family moved a lot so there are not many tangible meaningful items or photos to choose from. We lost a lot of things every time we moved. I think this would be a good photo to ...

Book Cover Design Part 2

Image
My design     For my project, I decided to go with my most recently read book, The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. The original designer of the front and back cover below is Anne Twomey. I feel like my design is effective because it provides an eye-catching moment to the reader. I wanted to do something different than the original design. Instead of a light background, I incorporated a photo of an "asylum," as google says, and edited the image. I learned from the learning videos to adjust the colors of the image, I decreased the brightness and saturation instead of putting a black-and-white filter. I can add that I was inspired by some of our classmates to have one image extended to the front and back cover design. I then incorporated layering by adding two more pictures on top of the background image on the front design. The first is a black headshot shadow male figure, and the second is an image of a woman with a blank face, representing Amelia from the book. I ad...

The Silent Patient Book Cover Design

Image
Original: My re-design: I do not read books very often, but I did read this recently and it was very interesting. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. My goal for this project was to design a front cover that makes the audience want to know more, directing them to read the book description on the back cover. The book is about a woman who is mourning her deceased husband, who was murdered. Sketch 1 and 3 connect to the title of the book more because I wanted to emphasize the woman's mouth is covered, although, for sketch 3 I used the torn page idea from the original cover, the proximity and continuation differ. Sketch 2 is the widowed patient just standing in the middle of a blank room with a blank expression. I was inspired by a specific scene in the book when the woman was speaking with her therapist for this graphic, I tried to use the imagery in the book and put it on paper. I feel like sketch 4 could potentially be the most eye-catching, and could be the best choice to move...
